Repair work to World Heritage Site, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Finished by Mid Feb 2018

 The Thomas Telford-built bridge, which soars 125 feet over the River Dee, will be partially sealed off for the next month. 

The scheduled maintenance means closures until Friday February 9. This will be OPEN from Feb half term guests staying with us.

The aqueduct will be closed to pedestrians at all times and will be closed to boats Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm. However it will be open before and after these times during daylight hours and will remain open on Saturdays and Sundays. 

The Canal and River Trust will carry out work to ensure the structure and the Llangollen Canal that crosses it continues to be in good order.  

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal The Aqueduct and Canal aqueduct was built to carry the Ellesmere Canal over the Dee Valley. Completed during the Industrial Revolution and designed by Thomas Telford, the aqueduct made innovative use of cast and wrought iron, influencing civil engineering across the world. 

This World Heritage Site is only 17 miles from here at Alkington Grange Barns and this important repair work will help look after the structure for years to come!!
