Cycling & Walking for all ages to enjoy!


Here at Alkington Grange Barns we have an Indoor Bike Store on site, with plenty of Bike Racks for you to secure your bikes. We don't supply bike locks, though, so please bring your own.

If you are not one for cycling then there are plenty of wonderful walking for all ages to enjoy. We have the Shropshire Way that runs through the farm or the Llangollen Canal to take you into Whitchurch.

There are some wonderful walks right on your door step with the Shropshire Way and Whixall Walks running straight through the farm.

The Shropshire Union Canal is less than a mile from our cottages and is wonderful walking for all the family. 


All the barns have a "Walk's Folder", which is filled with maps, leaflets and information about places to walk & cycle.


Please note bikes are not to be stored inside the cottages. Thank You.

Hawkstone Follies

Great walking for all ages...

Hawkstone Park Follies is a fantastic day out and has amazing walking, through caves, follies and incredible landscapes, set over 100 acres. 
It is a perfect day to tire all the family out including your four legged friend!!! 
The is also a lovely tea room as well as a shop.

Ellesmere 

Great for Walking or Cycling

Ellesmere - or as it is known The Lake District of Shropshire- is a wonderful place to visit with a wide variety of walks & a great place to cycle to.
The walks go around the nine different Meres that were created over 10, 000 years ago by retreating ice!! There are great footpaths and stunning countryside around each mere. There is also the Llangollen canal that runs through Ellesemere itself, which is also great for walking or cycling.

Route No 45

A National Cycle Route....

The National Cycle Route No 45 is part of the Sustrans Network and runs all the way from Salisbury to Chester, mainly using country lanes and ‘B’ roads. This 30 mile cycle ride takes you along a section of route No 45 from Whitchurch to Shrewsbury through some of the best quiet country lanes and countryside in Shropshire. Along the way you pass near to some local attractions. A fairly flat route with some rolling hills along the way.  There is a direct train service between the towns, so you can, if you wish return by train. Remember to check the timetable before you set off on your ride.

Bike Hire!

 A Mere Cycles, are based in Ellesmere, just down the road. Rod Evans and his wife Jo, can offer you a wide range of hire bikes at affordable prices, and delivered to you. Hire includes puncture repair kits, cycle helmets and delivery/collection. Locks they can supply too, but for a small charge.
